CHARACTER INFO

appearance: small and malnourished, he's skin and bones and scruff. usually seen wearing an over-sized t-shirt or hoodie and a pair of scuffed up blue jeans with sneakers. his hair is unkempt and his clothes may look dirty or have holes worn in them. it's easy to see he doesn't come from wealth and is refered to as "dirt grub" by some classmates.

background: Despite his homeless appearance, Charlie has a home. He just doesn't like being there. His mother is an emotionally unstable alcoholic and though she seems to care for him, she turns a blind eye to his worst troubles. They share the house with Charlie's uncle whom Charlie prefers to avoid so he spends as little time at home as possible. He attends high school but does poorly in class due to his dyslexia and his dislike for most teachers and authority figures. He's often the target of bullying at school and has developed a strategy to avoid getting beaten up by eating inedible objects, dirt and bugs to appease his bullies. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he's gotten into substance abuse, mostly in the form of inhalants and whatever alcohol he can get his hands on. He spends most of his time with his best friend, Mac, and is on somewhat friendly terms with Mac's friend, Dennis.

personality: Charlie has built up many layers around himself over the years. In general, he's leery and mistrustful around people and avoids both eye contact and physical contact. He can be prickly and a bit of a punk if he's suspicious of someone or doesn't understand their motives. However, he prefers to avoid conflict and would sooner run and hide than stick around for a fight. He's morally gray and not above things like petty theft if he wants something he can't afford to buy but he tries to do right and follows his moral compass when he can. Underneath the outer layers, Charlie is warm and friendly and likes to make people laugh. He has a strong sense of empathy for other people who are in situations like his own. At his core, Charlie wants to trust people and to be accepted for who he is, damage and all.
